Seismic survey vessel arrives for oil and gas exploration

A 3D seismic survey vessel has arrived in Jamaican waters for oil and gas exploration.

Under the direction of  marine geophysical company, Tullow Oil, the vessel will undertake detailed data gathering over a 2, 250 square kilometre area within the Walton Morant block south of  Jamaica.

Over an estimated 50 to 60 days it will use a sound based method that will generate detailed 3D images of  rock layers beneath the seafloor.

The data will then be analysed to identify potential oil and gas reservoirs.

The 3D seismic survey will determine the direction of  the Petroleum Corporation of  Jamaica's oil and gas exploration programme.

The survey forms part of  the 2014 Production Sharing Agreement between the PCJ and Tullow Oil as they continue the search for oil and gas offshore Jamaica.
