Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are preparing to celebrate a very special lady in their lives today – their mum, the Princess of Wales.

Like millions of families throughout the UK, the Wales household is set for Mother's Day festivities, with Kate likely anticipating a delightful day full of surprises.

The day isn't just about Kate; the young royals will also be showing appreciation to their beloved grandmother Carole Middleton, who has been instrumental in their lives and an anchor for the family as Kate faced her cancer ordeal and the battles with chemotherapy.

In addition to Carole, the children may also take time to remember another important figure - their late grandmother on their father’s side, Princess Diana, the Mirror reports.

Despite never having met Diana, William has made it a point to keep his mother's memory alive for his children. A few years back, he revealed touching Mother’s Day cards made by the kids for Princess Diana.

Princess Charlotte’s message was particularly heartfelt, written on a vibrant fuchsia card adorned with a colourful heart – she mentioned how much her dad misses Diana, penning: "Dear Granny Diana, I am thinking of you on mother's day. I love you very much. Papa is missing you. Lots of love Charlotte xxxxxxxxx".

Meanwhile, George, the older brother, used joined-up writing on a bright green card to express his sentiments: "Dear granny Diana, Happy happy Mother's Day. I love you very much and think of you always, sending lots of love from George xxxxx"

And Louis, who was just two at the time, also used green card for his Mother's Day card which featured a colourful heart surrounded by several animals - all of which had been stuck onto the card.

The cards were posted on the official Twitter account for the Prince and Princess of Wales where four images were uploaded, with a heartfelt message.

In the 2017 documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, William spoke openly saying he is committed to making sure his children know all about their late grandmother.

He said wants his kids to "know who she was and that she existed" and revealed how he "constantly" talks to his children "about Granny Diana" at bedtime so they are aware "there are two grandmothers in their lives".

The future king stated: "We've got more photos up around the house now of her and we talk about her a bit."

He further added: "It's hard because obviously Catherine didn't know her so she cannot really provide that level of detail, so I regularly put George and Charlotte to bed, talk about her and just try to remind them that there are two grandmothers, there were two grandmothers in their lives. So it's important that they know who she was and that she existed."

Prince William has drawn on the compassionate legacy of his late mother, Princess Diana, embarking on a mission to combat homelessness – a cause close to her heart.

He shared his determination to keep Diana's memory alive through this campaign, which he highlighted in a pivotal TV documentary last year.

The future king reflected on how Diana instilled this sense of duty in him from an early age, saying: "My mother introduced me to homelessness a long time ago."

He further elaborated during the programme: "I have taken some inspiration and guidance from what my mother did, particularly with homelessness. That has grown more over the last few years. When I was very small my mother started talking about homelessness – much like I do now with my children on the school run."
