JAKARTA -- A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province on Monday evening without triggering large waves, the country's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency reported.

The tremor occurred at 22:54 Jakarta time (1554 GMT), with the epicenter located 61 km southwest of the Wanokaka sub-district in West Sumba Regency, at a depth of 10 km beneath the seabed.

The quake's intensity was recorded at III MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity) in Waingapu, West Sumba Regency.

The tremors were also felt in the neighboring West Nusa Tenggara province, with an intensity of III MMI in Bima town.

The agency did not issue a tsunami warning, as the tremors were not expected to generate large waves.

Indonesia, an archipelagic nation, is highly earthquake-prone due to its location within the seismically active "Pacific Ring of Fire".
