Baseball 2025 preview: A team-by-team look at the Greater Middlesex Conference

Here is a look at the Greater Middlesex Conference baseball teams and what to expect for the 2025 season.
Greater Middlesex Conference
Red Division
EAST BRUNSWICK
Coach: Chris Kenney, 13th season (173-129-2)
Last year: 7-16-1 overall, 3-9 Red Division
Key losses: Dustin McGuinness (Wagner, SS/RHP), Lukas Meyer (Rutgers Newark, SS/2B/RHP)
Roster: Andrew Melcer (Sr., 1B); Tyler Zeichner (Jr., OF); Connor Glynn (Sr., 3B); Hayden Dziubeck (Sr., LHP/OF); Jared MacWithey (Sr., 3B); Jesse Beckman (Sr., 1B); Felix Munoz (Sr., C); Joseph Spinello (Jr., CF); Joshua Kesser (Sr., RHP/3B); Jordan Rudolph (So., RHP/1B); Jaidon Coello (Jr., OF); Julian Satterthwaite (Jr., SS); Joshua Hines (Jr., 2B); Ryan Kenul ( Sr., SS/2B); Brandon Bastek (Jr., C); Sean Gillis (Jr., 2B); Brett Ryer (Jr., C); Ryan Blum (Jr. OF); Sean Christie (So., RHP/OF)
Outlook: Pitching and defense wins championships, the saying goes, and the Bears hope that’s again the backbone of the squad. However, hits help, too, and East Brunswick looks to improve on last year’s .206 average of a team that got shutout six times. One positive is about half a dozen players are back who saw a chunk of varsity and the junior varsity boasted a .300 team average. The Bears have speed and the ability for timely hitting along with a deep pitching staff. EB has experienced pitchers led by senior co-aces Joshua Kesser and Hayden Dziubeck (30 IP, 3.97 ERA) with classmate Connor Glynn (11 2/3 IP, 2.40 ERA) and sophomore Jordan Rudolph just behind them. The rotation will benefit from the depth provided by Andrew Melcer, Joshua Hines, Julian Satterthwaite and Sean Christie.
Defensively, East Brunswick faces the task of replacing several starters, but returning players Joseph Spinello (CF, clean up hitter), JaredMacWithey (LF), Connor Glynn (3B), Felix Munozan (C) and first basemen Jordan Rudolph, Andrew Melcer and Jesse Beckman provide a solid foundation. Newcomer Tyler Zeichner (OF) is slated to hit leadoff and Jaidon Coello and Ryan Blum fill out the outfield. Manning the infield are newcomers Ryan Kenul (2B/SS), Jullian Satterthwait (SS), Josh Hines (2B) and Sean Gillis (2B). Brandon Bastek and Brett Ryer are also behind the plate. Chris Kenney has a 173-129-2 record entering his 13th season as head coach.
EDISON
Coach: Vinnie Abene, 23rd season
Last year: 16-12 overall, 8-4 White Division
Key losses: Jaxon Appelman (INF/RP), Noel Chipoco (INF/RHP), Mason Murphy (RHP/DH), Jeremy Hutchins (RHP)
Roster: Lucas Almonte (Sr. INF); Anthony Calantoni (Sr., INF); Brody Ferrer (Sr., C); Teddy Eyler (Sr., OF); Brandon Fajardo (Sr. OF/RHP); Deon McKnight (Sr., OF); Robert Roma (Jr., LHP/OF); Dominic Innocenti (Jr., INF/RHP); Isaiah Lutz-Sowell (Jr., 1B/RHP); Darren Tirado (Jr., OF); Connor Murphy (Jr., INF/ RHP); Dante di Pasquale (So., RHP/1B); Will Eyler (So., OF); Shaun Garland (So., INF/DH); Ray Tavarez (So., INF/RHP); Sam Kentos (Fr., OF/RHP); Brayden Roma (Fr., 1B/RHP); Damien Calandra (Fr., C)
Outlook: Usually graduating a player like Jaxon Appelman is cause for concern. The four-year starter, now at Coastal Carolina, led the Eagles in wins (six), strikeouts (92), ERA (1.72), home runs (six) and extra base hits (16). While he’ll certainly be missed, the Eagles return just about everyone else from a youthful team that reached the GMCT semifinals and tied for second with Colonia in the White Division. Now, they move up to the Red Division with tons of experience and star power. Eight players are back as skipper Vinnie Abene needs two wins for his 300th career victory in his 23rd season. He has a career 298-250 record.
Robert Roma was voted All-GMC by the coaches as a sophomore two-way star (46 IP, 52 Ks, 1.83 ERA with a team-high 22 RBIs, .311 batting average and .382 OBP). The all-underclassmen pitching staff also includes righties Connor Murphy (34 2/3 IP, 38 Ks, 3.44 ERA, 3-1, one save), Dom Innocenti (30 IP, 39 Ks, 3.27 ERA, 3-3, two saves), Darren Tirado and Ray Tavarez.
All-Division senior shortstop Anthony Calantoni returns as the Eagles leading hitter with a .430 average (37-for-86, a .485 OBP and 16 SBs). Seniors Teddy Eyler and Brody Ferrer (.304 BA, .409 OBP) and sophomore Shaun Garland return to the lineup as well. Freshmen Sam Kentos, Damien Calandra and Brayden Roma can have an immediate impact. The lineup has experience and some power, but there is competition to get at-bats in the deep program. Junior Isaiah Lutz has been swinging the bat well.
MONROE
Coach: Sean Field, 6th season
Last year: 16-10 overall, 7-5 Red Division
Key losses: Harrison Lollin (P/3B), Zack Wallace (P), Lucas White (P), Nate Peitz (P)
Roster: Nick Fletcher (Sr., 2B/SS); Braeden Hoiberg (Sr., 1B/RHP); Sean McManus (Sr., OF); DJ Ragosa (Sr., OF); Ryan Olmo (Sr., C); Justin Mangano (Jr., INF/C); Ben Faigin (So., OF/LHP); Matt Linke (Jr., INF); Andre Love (Jr., RHP); Liam Williams (Sr., OF/RHP); Tyler Bacon (Jr., OF); Jake Lobue (Sr., CF/RHP); Shaan Jabbal (Sr., OF); Max Gonzalez (Jr., 3B/RHP); Ohm Desai (Sr., RHP); Ryan Desmond (So., 1B/RHP); Alex Marcus (Jr., OF); Niko Antoniades (So., INF); Dylan Knight (Jr., LHP); Owen Judge (Sr., 3B); Jacob Weiss (Sr., INF)
Outlook: The Falcons had a fun run to the Central Group 4 title last season and won seven of their last eight. However, they graduated their top three pitchers who combined for 233 strikeouts and a 2.37 ERA in Zack Wallace, Lucas White, and Harrison Lollin. The Falcons also lost their top hitter Owen Judge (.324 AVG), who will miss the season after suffering an ACL tear. However, they added Georgia commit Andre Love, who had a strong sophomore season for East Brunswick. Other pieces like Jake Lobue (.304 AVG, 19 stolen bases) provide an offensive foundation. Plus, Monroe always has good players ready to seize their opportunity.
OLD BRIDGE
Coach: Matt Donaghue, 7th season
Last year: 20-9 overall, 9-3 Red Division
Key losses: Frank Papeo (1B/OF/LHP), JT Meyer (OF/RHP), Luke Hagen (LHP), MJ Altman (1B/DH), Christian Cavanagh (C), Evan Smith (OF/RHP)
Roster: Jared Volpe (So., INF); Matt Chin (Fr., INF/OF/RHP); Justin Hascup (Sr., 3B/RHP); John Smith (Sr., RHP/SS); Chris Crosta (Jr., INF); Akhil Penkala (Sr., 1B/DH); Brody Nugent (Jr., OF/LHP); Anthony Jannucci (Sr., C); Jason Cota (Sr., C); Brady Meyer (So., INF/RHP); Erich Schikschneit (Jr.,1B/RHP); Noah Balbuena (Sr., 1B/RHP); Michael Chiarella (Jr., RHP/INF); Adrian Lutomski (Jr., OF/C); Harry Denney (Jr., U); Dominick Botte (Sr., INF); Chris Burns (Sr., INF); John Sorrano (Sr., OF); Matt Levitt (So., OF); John Mamo (Sr., 1B); John Bianculli (Sr., RHP); Jason Gelman (Sr., INF)
Outlook: It’s been a fun time being an Old Bridge fan as of late. The Knights met for celebrations and Gatorade baths the last two seasons with a sectional title win in 2023 and the GMCT championship in 2024. It’s a program used to winning with depth coming up through the ranks. Once again, Old Bridge should contend for dog piles on the mound after big wins. They do graduate a handful of key players with top stats. However, two All-GMC players are back. Two-way star Justin Hascup (Post University commit) had a 2.18 ERA with 66 strikeouts to 15 walks in in 57 2/3 innings. The third baseman when not pitching hit .364 (28-for-77). Leadoff hitter John Smith is an ideal table setter and hit .412 (35-for-85) with 12 walks, 18 runs scored and 17 RBIs. Akhil Penkala (.443 BA) and Chris Crosta (.298 BA) are both back. The Knights have options battling for starting spots with hungry seniors and a talented young group all vying for playing time. The Knights have questions on the mound to join Hascup after graduating a senior rotation. John Smith, Akhil Penkala, Noah Balbuena, Matt Levitt, Erich Schikschneit, Mike Chiarella and Brady Meyer are all options. Matt Donaghue has a 102-72 record as he enters his seventh season.
SOUTH BRUNSWICK
Coach: Mike Pallitto, 2nd season
Last year: 14-13 overall, 6-6 Red Division
Key losses: Teddy Garcia (INF), Joey Sanchez (C), Aaron Perna (P/OF), Danny Kirk (INF/P), Jack Leach (OF), Nick Stenger (OF), Anthony Servedio (P), Jake Graci (C), Brian Culhane (OF), Atticus Solomons (P), Will Haman (INF/ P), Ethan Fantel (1B/P),
Roster: Aveer Mouron (So., INF/RHP); Christian Andersen (Sr., C); James Angermeier (So., INF/RHP); Anthony D’Amato (So., INF/RHP); Dylan Gardella (Sr., OF); Alex Katona (So., OF/LHP); John Koch (Sr, INF/LHP); Peyton Lawson (Sr., RHP/INF); Bretton Lynch (Sr., OF/C); Petyon Lynch (Jr., OF); Collin Perna (Jr., INF); Luke Raab (Jr., INF/RHP); Tyler Szakacs (So., INF/RHP); Jack Whitlock (So., INF/P); Julian Williams (So., OF)
Outlook: The Vikings finished strong last season to get over .500 with a senior-heavy team led by two-way star Ethan Fantel. Now, a dozen mainstays graduated and they’ll be looking to rebuild fast. A good thing is that players biding their time are ready to breakout. All-Division infielder Collin Perna (.352 BA, 25 hits, 4 HRs, 14 RBIs) leads the way. Another building block is the lone returning starting pitcher John Koch (28 IP, 34 Ks, 3.25 ERA) and catcher Christian Andersen appeared in a handful of varsity games last year as a sophomore.
ST. JOSEPH
Coach: Dennis McCaffery, 1st season
Last year: 7-20 overall, 3-9 Red Division
Key losses: Joseph Zammitti (INF), Christian Salgado (C/OF), JJ Healey(P)
Roster: Kristian Almanzar (Jr., OF); Owen Krulikowski (Jr., RHP); Domenic Erbafina (Sr., RHP/OF); Zachary Penley (Sr., C); Rich Zangara (Sr., RHP/1B); Connor Walker (Jr., LHP/1B); Damian Pipitone (Sr., LHP/OF); John Palermo (Sr., LHP/OF); Bobby Christensen (Sr., INF); Luke Palermo (So., LHP/1B); Joe Barca (Sr., RHP/3B); JP Zayle (Sr., 3B/1B); Matt Friedman (Sr., 3B/1B/RHP); Danny Internoscia (1B); Logan Ring (So., 3B/1B/RHP); AJ Huber (So., OF); Walter Christian (Jr., INF/OF/RHP); Giacomo Imperiale (Sr., RHP); Luke Baranauskas (So., RHP)
Outlook: It happens to even a storied program like St. Joseph. The Falcons got caught in a cycle of mostly new varsity players who were thrown into a brutal Red Division and nonconference schedule. The result was a rare down year for St. Joseph, which had played in three straight GMC Tournament finals with two wins. Now, many of those players are back with more seasoning as legendary former Cranford skipper Dennis McCaffrey takes over as head coach. He led the Cougars to 511 wins and three state titles from 1999 to 2024. Heck, he’s already a member of the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Union County Baseball Association Hall of Fame. He takes over a hungry team. All-Red Division Bobby Christensen (.431, 13 RBIs, 21 walks, 10 steals) returns as does Matthew Ferber (.350, 10 RBIs), JP Zayle (.296, 11 RBIs) and Luke Palermo, who hit. 304 as a freshman. Joe Barca (25 ABs, .400 BA) also brings experience to the mound. Connor Walker, Rich Zangara and Palermo saw varsity innings last season and hope to take the next step.
SOUTH PLAINFIELD
Coach: Scott Gleichenhaus, 5th season
Last year: 22-6-1 overall, 10-2 Red Division
Key losses: Zach Robinson (SS), Jayden Alvarez (3B), Chase Donovan (P), Brandon Bickunas (1B/DH), Aldo Pigna (P), Andrew Csordos (P)
Roster: Dan Kapsch (Sr., SS); Nick Irizarry (Sr., 2B); Kevin Penny (Sr., LHP/1B/OF); Ryan Balent (Sr., RF/RHP); Mike Castagna (Sr., RHP); Steve Studlack (Sr., C); Jack Jones (Sr., RHP/OF/DH); Lorenzo Fuscoletti (Sr., RHP/LF); Anthony Tomei (Sr., DH/LF); Dave Butrico (Sr., P/DH); Matt Falcone (Sr., RHP); Dominic Massaro (Jr., CF);Aiden McCarthy (Jr., LHP/1B); Jayden Jimenez (Jr., RHP); Joe Stanzione (Jr., LHP/OF); Dylan Oller (Jr., U/DH); Alex Pigna (Jr., RHP/U); Aidan Kaplan (Jr., RHP/OF); Ed Budzinski (Jr., LHP/OF); Chris Loniewski (So., 3B/C/OF); Andrew Bena (Fr., LHP)
Outlook: The Tigers like to keep things fun and loose on the diamond and that no-panic approach paid off in a 22-win season and trips to the GMCT and North 2 Group 3 finals. They produced a 14-game unbeaten streak at one point. Now, the Red Division champs return an experienced group of well-tested veterans primed for success. They do, however, have to replace All-GMC players Zach Robinson and Jayden Alvarez and their prolific bats, as well as pitchers Aldo Pigna, Andrew Csordos and Chase Donovan. There’s a lot to like as pitching and defense will once again be a key. A trio of seniors: Kevin Penny (39 2/3 IP, 36 Ks, 3.35 ERA), Mike Castagna (35 IP, 27 Ks, 1.60 ERA) and Ryan Balent (20 IP, .70 ERA), return as the projected aces of this staff. Juniors Aiden McCarthy and Jayden Jimenez will provide depth to the rotation and can serve in relief. The Tigers possess a collection of other arms who will be called upon to get some tough outs throughout the course of the season.
The infield is led by team captain Dan Kapsch (who slides from second base into the shortstop role) and his partner up the middle, Nick Irizarry, who will move from LF to 2B. Kapsch hit .376 (38-for-101 with 31 runs and 15 RBIs) and Irizarry hit .378 (34-for-90) with a .472 OBP, 22 RBIs, 31 runs and 35 SBs. Penny (.290 BA) and McCarthy (.284 BA) will split time at first base, while Chris Loniewski and Lorenzo Fuscoletti are competing for time across the diamond at third. Steven Studlack, who was thrust into duty last year, returns as the Tigers seasoned backstop. Team captain Dominic Massaro was an All-Area player as a freshman in 2023 but missed time last season with a leg injury. A healthy Massaro is the leader of the Tiger outfield and covers ground in center. He will be flanked mainly by Penny, Balent and Joe Stanzione in the outfield.
WOODBRIDGE
Coach: Mike Monaco, 8th season
Last year: 17-10 overall, 11-1 White Division
Key losses: Drew Lukachyk (INF/RHP); Eddy Nunez (RHP); Tyler Weber (C); Shawn Kish (UTIL/P); Dean Fiore (OF/LHP); Tim Deignan (OF); Jostiel Valdez (OF/LHP); Mike Travostino (INF); Jack Brenner (OF)
Roster: Gavin Slicner (Jr., INF); Derek Anderson (Sr., CF); (Jr., INF); Ryan Leach (Sr., P/DH); Mike Gurovich ( Jr., INF/RHP); Bryan German ( Sr., INF); Tyler Simkovich (Sr., OF/RHP); Bryant Pereira (Sr., OF); Luke Casaliggi ( Sr., C); Derek Oxner ( Sr., C); Nick Lukachyk (So., INF/RHP); Billy Mansfield (Jr., RHP/1B); Yadiel Pena (Jr., RHP-1B); Kevin Arroyo (Jr., RHP-OF); Dylan Mastrola (Jr., RHP/OF); Nate Langon (So., U)
Outlook: Some of last season’s Woodbridge players just seemed like they were around forever. Six of the nine seniors were three-year starters that contributed to the Barrons success in that span. That included 64 wins, a 34-8 White Division record and last season’s division title, as well as state sectional semifinal and final appearances. The stars included three-time All-GMC ace Eddy Nunez, second on the program’s all-time wins list, and Drew Lukachyk, the program’s all-time hits leader. All that production will be hard to replace as Woodbridge moves up to the Red Division. They do have some nice building blocks despite graduating all but 36 innings pitched. One bonus is the return of senior Ryan Leach (Post University commit), who missed last season with a knee injury. Leach excelled in his sophomore season (7-1, 2.50 ERA, 73 Ks , 50 IP) and figures to be one of the top arms in the conference and a major power threat at the plate. Billy Mansfield (26 IP, 28 Ks, 2.66 ERA) should be the Barrons’ No. 2 arm after a successful sophomore season. Tyler Simkovich and Yadiel Pena look to have increased workloads after limited innings last spring.
The Barrons’ offense is highlighted by the return of two juniors. All-Division Xavier Diaz, who was selected to the Quad County and GMC underclassmen all-star games, hit .342 with 25 hits and should again be in the middle of the lineup. Gavin Slicner picked up 23 hits, scored 24 runs and swiped 15 bags in his sophomore campaign and should again be a sparkplug. The coaches selected him to the GMC underclassmen all-star game. The only other returning players with significant varsity time are Derek Anderson and Bryan German. Anderson, a three-sport standout, will man center field. In 2024, he notched 12 hits and swiped 12 bags while playing a terrific outfield. German collected nine hits last season and will look to fill an infield spot. The Barrons do have talent that was waiting behind the multi-year starters. Behind the plate, Luke Casaliggi (Centenary commit) and Derek Oxner (Sussex County Community College) are looking for big senior seasons. Promising junior Mike Gurovich hopes to seize an infield position and provide depth on the mound. Simkovich and Bryant Periera will be looking to anchor down OF spots. Talented sophomores Nick Lukachyk and Nate Langon also look to make immediate impacts. Despite the losses to graduation, the Barrons’ blend of promising newcomers and solidified veterans should keep them competitive in the conference’s top division. Mike Monaco is 104-56 as he enters his eighth season.
White Division
COLONIA
Coach: Mike Scialfo, 8th season (80-69)
Last year: 19-7 overall, 8-4 White Division
Key losses: Casey Chiola (C), Tim Gomez (U), Tim Matten (OF), Anthony Singh (RHP)
Roster: Jake Harvatt (Sr., OF/INF/C); Cory Pascarella (Sr., RHP/INF); Matt Fasulo (Sr., RHP/SS); Nick Minue (Sr., (RHP/OF); Dylan Chiera (Jr., RHP/INF); Tyler Chiola (Jr., RHP/1B); Jake Gotti (Jr., RHP/INF); Colin Kroner (Jr., RHP/OF); Ryan Totin (Jr., RHP/OF); Paul Asseng (So., RHP/OF); Joe Massimino (So., OF); Nick Milone (So., C); Jeff Melitto (So., RHP/INF/OF); Jayce Rodriguez (Fr., RHP/INF/OF)
Outlook: Oh, to have just one of those aces. Colonia features two of the top pitchers in the GMC with Division 1 arms in Cory Pascarella (Monmouth commit) and Colin Kroner (Seton Hall commit). They’ll provide a nice 1-2 punch that gives the Patriots a chance to win every time they’re on the hill. Pascarella (8-2) gave up three earned runs last season in 56 1/3 innings for a 0.37 ERA with 86 strikeouts and gave up just eight walks. Kroner wasn’t too far behind with a 2.20 ERA in 49 innings with 78 strikeouts. He is seven K’s away from 100 in his career. The strong rotation is filled out by Dylan Chiera (12 IP, 1.17 ERA), Tyler Chiola (19 1/2 IP, 2.90 ERA) and Jayce Rodriguez. The Patriots need to fill the important role that Casey Chiola occupied behind the plate the last three seasons. Offensively, the top two hitters and RBI leaders return in Kroner (.286, 18 RBIs) and Matt Fasulo (.279, 17 RBIs). Chiera, Pascarella, Joe Massimino and Jake Harvatt are all back and look to give Colonia offensive production.
MIDDLESEX
Coach: Blaze Iannetti, 1st season
Last year: 10-17 overall, 4-8 White Division
Key losses: Frank Berta (1B-DH)
Roster: Dom Parenti (Sr., SS); Owen Reynolds (Sr., 1B); Lunden Chadwell (Sr., RHP); Nathan Thompson (Sr., 3B/RHP); Marcus Lavornia (Jr., 2B); Chris Kozak (Jr., OF/RHP); Ryan Gianchiglia (Jr., OF); Sean Hughes (Jr., 3B); Dalton Michael (Jr., DH/LHP); James Matula (Jr., OF); Lucas Blanco (Jr., C/INF/OF); Dylan Ianiero (So., OF/LHP); Daniel Ianiero (So., C); Luke Jones (So., 1B/DH); Nomar Almonte (So., OF); Diego Marcano (So., 2B)
Outlook: The Blue Jays have been a blue blood baseball program in the GMC and Group 1 but had a rare rebuilding season last spring. Now they return all starters and expectations are high as they enter the season. With no major losses in the lineup, the team benefits from established chemistry and a deep understanding of each other’s playing styles. The lineup doesn’t change much with seniors Dom Parenti (.282, team-highs of 14 RBIs, 21 runs) and Owen Reynolds (.341) leading the charge. The pitching staff remains the same, as well, and a year of experience should translate into improved command, velocity, and composure on the mound. The one-two punch of Chris Kozak (56 IP, 66 Ks, 4.00 ERA) and Dominic Long (40 IP, 39 Ks, 3.32 ERA) should have the Blue Jays ready to compete in the always tough White Division. Dylan Ianiero sported a 1.64 ERA in 25 2/3 innings as a freshman last year. Blaze Iannetti takes over for Justin Nastasi, who stepped down after 10 seasons as the head coach. He’s a familiar name for Blue Jays fans. Iannetti played at Middlesex under Mike O’Donnell and returned to his alma mater as the junior varsity coach from 2016-2022 and was the assistant varsity coach the last two seasons. He played at Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut, where he had a career .323 average and helped the Mariners to two NECC championships, two NCAA Regional Tournaments and was a part of the team that recorded the most wins in school history (32).
NORTH BRUNSWICK
Coach: Jake Rosenberg, 2nd year
Last year: 13-13 overall, 4-8 Red Division
Key losses: Yomar Carreras (SS), F Kyle Anderson, (RHP), Chris Rosario (RHP/INF), Alejandro Jabar (LHP/1B),Avery Price (OF), Anger Gonzalez (OF), Jaser Martinez (OF), Aaron Wilhelm (RHP/1B), Daniel Breheney (OF), Jason Fabrizio (LHP/1B)
Roster: Connor Levine (Sr., RHP/SS/CF); Timmy DeGaetano (Sr., INF/C/RHP); Andrew Selover (Sr., C/RHP); Willy Pena (So., INF); Chris Cardinoza (So., OF/INF/RHP); Carlos Estudillo Jimenez (Sr., CF/RHP); Jasiah Hogans (Fr. INF/OF/RHP); Angelo Gomez (Sr., INF/RHP); Cristhian Estevez Jaquez (Sr., INF/OF); (Jr., OF) Aron Montano; Lyam Sanchez Minaya (So. 1B/RHP); Mateo Gianni (Fr., OF/RHP); Aidan Keiser (Fr., OF/RHP); (Jr., OF/INF/C); Jairo Marte Reyes (Sr., INF); Jarvin Rodriguez (Sr., INF); Jemari Peterkin (Jr., OF); Marius Ramsey (Jr., OF)
Outlook: North Brunswick had teams full of superstars and deep lineups the past few seasons. Now, the next generation of Raiders are ready to make names for themselves on the diamond with mostly newcomers manning spots. Senior captain Timmy DeGaetano (Alvernia commit) is a good building block and can play in the middle infield, catch and pitch in relief. He brings experience and batted .351 last season with 26 hits, 25 runs scored with 16 walks. Connor Levine is the only pitcher returning with varsity experience on the mound. One of the captains, he also plays center field and shortstop and hits in the middle of the order. Andrew Selover, the third senior captain, was a quality defensive catcher last season and will also pitch for the Raiders this season. Carlos Estudillo Jimenez, a good defender in center field, will compete for a starting spot in the rotation as he looks to harness his explosive stuff and is a spark plug at the front end of the lineup. Several exciting underclassmen are looking to breakout. Willy Pena hit .275 as a freshman on 14 hits with 10 walks while playing first and third base. The promising lefty hitter has power potential. Classmate Chris Cardinoza had an impressive JV season as a freshman and looks to continue his success on the mound at the varsity level. The accurate righty with a good arsenal that changes speed well also plays outfield. Freshman Josiah Hogans should showcase his versatility and speed right away in the outfield or infield and is vying for innings as a pitcher.
PERTH AMBOY
Coach: Damon Clark, 5th season
Last year: 9-14 overall, 3-11 White Division
Key losses: Sebastian Aponte (SS), Julian Collado (OF), Edgar DeLeon (P, OF), Anthony Ortega (RHP), Gabriel Morales (OF), John Almonte (C), Jayden Hernandez(RHP), Armando Lagomarsini (OF)
Roster: Justin Foy (Sr., RHP/OF); Christopher Aracena (Sr., INF); Christopher Rodriguez (Sr., INF/DH); Cesar Suriel (Sr., INF/RHP), Yendy Tomas (Sr., INF/OF); Angel Cruz (Sr., OF); Marcos Suriel (Sr., OF); Edgar Lopez (Sr., OF); Flamin Ynoa (Sr., OF); Khris Gonzalez (Jr., LHP); Bryan Jiminez (Jr., RHP); Victor Cruz (Jr., RHP); Frankeley Rodriguez (Jr., 1B-OF); Jariel Dominguez (Jr., INF); Johnny Cruz (Sr., OF); Yerandy Guzman (Jr., C/RHP); Guillermo Vidal (Sr., C); Jaden Fabian (Fr., OF); Gary Rojas (Jr., OF)
Outlook: The Panthers have been on the upswing the last two seasons. They finished 2023 by capturing the GMC Invitational title after not winning a regular season game. Last year, Perth Amboy built on that momentum by winning nine regular season games and qualifying for both the GMC Tournament and the sectional tournament. Now, they hope to build on that success even more. While they graduated some key pieces, the Panthers return four-year starter Justin Foy and Khris Gonzalez at the top of the rotation. Foy, a NJCU commit, also looks for a big year at the plate. Gonzalez, a junior lefty, has hit the weight room in the offseason and dropped about 20 pounds. He looks ready to take the next step on the mound. Newcomers to the rotation include righty Victor Cruz, who had a good preseason after working on his control and velo in the offseason. Cesar Surial, who pitched in relief last year as a junior, joins the starting rotation.
In the infield, sophomore Yadriel Cabrera snagged the second base job with a great glove and some pop at the plate. Three-year varsity player Cesar Suriel will anchor the infield at shortstop and team captain Christopher Aracena leads off and plays third after transferring in from North Plainfield last year. Jariel Dominguez adds versatility by playing multiple infield positions, as well as outfield if needed. Christopher Rodriguez starts as the team's DH and finished strong last season batting .289 with a home run. Yendy Tomas has made a smooth transition going from third to first base and is locked in as a middle of the order guy.
Foy looks to build off his .315 batting average and moves from first base to his natural position as an outfielder. Two-year starter Gary Rojas moves from left to center field and will be stepping up as a leader. Flamin Ynoa will be returning to the outfield after being a part-time starter last year and is a power-hitting corner outfielder with a good arm. Players to watch include freshman Jadian Fabian and sophomore Amauris Pegeuro, one of the best athletes on the team and can play anywhere on the field.
SAYREVILLE
Coach: Tim Ballard, 2nd season
Last year: 12-13 overall, 6-6 White Division
Key losses: Jake Romanello (OF), Moe Hedderman (P-1B), Jaydon Stio (3B), Jack Zapoticzny (OF-P)
Roster: Thomas Schlaline (Sr., 1B/RHP), Michael Robinson (Sr., C), James Kehoe (Sr., OF/RHP), Justin Marrero (Sr., INF), Joe Santamaria (Sr., INF), Bobby Shaw (Sr., 1B), Logan Kaufman (Jr., OF/RHP), Justin Maher (Jr., OF/LHP), Tyler Yan (Jr., OF/LHP), Chase Cannan (So., INF/RHP), Bryan Giordano (So., OF/P), Ray Koester (So., 1B/OF), Will Lukie (So., C), Jack Martyn (So., P), Andrew Provenza (So., OF), Brandon Stio (So.,1B/RHP), Jarret Intili (Fr., C/OF), Kyle Stevens (Fr., INF/P), Trevor Yan (Fr., INF/P)
Outlook: The Bombers return seven starters from their GMCT semifinal run last season as the No. 10 seed. Led by All-Division players and two-time captains Mikey Robinson and Tommy Schlaline, the Bombers are poised to make a run at the White Division title behind their pitching and defense. The pitching staff is led by the veteran trio of Schlaline (3.76 ERA, 42 Ks, 41 IP), captain Jimmy Kehoe and Logan Kaufman, all of whom can match up with an opponent’s ace – remember Schlaline’s two-hit gem in the GMCT first round last year? They did graduate Moe Hedderman (3.30 ERA, 50 Ks).
The defense is anchored by Robinson (.333, team-high21 RBIs), an All-Area catcher known for his skills behind the plate. Sophomore Chase Cannan (.290) returns at shortstop, while seniors Justin Marrero (.296, captain) and Joe Santamaria will help newcomer Brandon Stio solidify the infield. The outfield returns three starters in Kehoe, Kaufman, and Justin Maher, who looks to bolster the middle of the lineup with his lefty bat. Newcomers Tyler Yan, Bryan Giordano, Jarret Intili, Bobby Shaw and Trevor Yan will contribute around the diamond and add depth in the lineup.
SPOTSWOOD
Coach: Glenn Fredriks, 20th season
Last year: 19-4-2 overall, 11-1 GMC Blue Division
Key losses: Luc Acquaviva (RHP); Breckyn DeAngelis (CF); Mason Bitalla (C)
Roster: Jack Bicsko (Sr., LHP); Tyler Oleksy (Sr., LHP); Ryan Nunn (Sr., RHP); Andrew Newhard (Sr., RHP); Shawn Lennan (Sr., 3B); William Buchan (Sr., RHP/INF); Carter Cumiskey (Sr., LHP/1B); Steve Henits (Sr., OF); Joey O’Halloran (Sr., OF); Christopher Rucinski (Sr., C); John Lubin (Sr., OF); Brandon Rivera (Sr., C/1B); Matthew Carlson (Sr., 3B/SS/P); Steve Spisso (Sr., U); Sebby Saracino (Jr., OF/RHP); Gavin Romeo (Jr., 2B); Ryan Orth (Jr., RHP/U); Mikey Palumbo (Jr., OF/1B); Jack Korneski (So., RHP/OF); Leo Carone (P/1B); Tyrus Lazar (Fr., C)
Outlook: The Chargers spent every day over the past two seasons with at least a share of first place in the Blue Division with back-to-back pennants. That’s a good run. Now, they move back to the White Division for the first time since 2022. Last year's edition finished 19-4 and had the least amount of losses out of any GMC club. A mostly veteran lineup returns 13 seniors to give them an excellent chance to contend for the White Division pennant. They’re led by All-Area selection Carter Cumiskey (.446, six HRs, 30 RBIs and carried a 1.80 ERA with 78 Ks on the mound) and shortstop William Buchan (.375, 27 RBIs). Infielder Ryan Orth (.322 batting average and 2.47 ERA) was also an All-Division player. Three-year starter Shawn Lennan returns to man the hot corner for his senior season and Gavin Romeo mans 2B along with Orth. The order gets some much-needed power with the edition of rookie backstop Tyrus Lazar. Lazar has emerged as a middle of the order presence to support the bats of Orth, Cumiskey and Buchan. Brandon Rivera and sophomore Derek Mate join Lazar for a solid catching group. Three-year starter Saracino will patrol center and is an excellent gap-to-gap defender and is looking to add offense to the middle of the lineup. The corner outfield slots have options with seniors John Lubin, Steve Henits and Joey O'Halloran, as well as junior Mike Palumbo.
The Chargers pitching returns 105 2/3 innings of experience and 13 wins on the mound but will have to make up for the graduations of Luc Acquaviva (1.78 ERA, 49 Ks) and Breckyn DeAngelis (1.83 ERA). Buchan returns to the mound and is set to join senior lefthanders Jack Bicsko, Tyler Oleksy and the ace Cumiskey in the rotation. Sophomores Leo Carone and Jack Korneski will round out the staff. The team is dedicating the season to their teammate Matthew Carlson, who died in an accident two years ago and would have been a senior. Glenn Fredriks has a 311-200 record as his enters his 20th season as head coach.
ST. THOMAS AQUINAS
Coach: Tom D’Agostino, 9th season
Last year: 19-9 overall, 8-4 GMC Blue Division
Key losses: Gavin Sansone (OF/LHP), Pete Fizer (C), Zach Diaz (INF), Benjie Pabon (RHP), Jon Misura (LHP), Chris Fogarile (2B)
Roster: Donavan Epps (Sr., OF/P); Declan DiCarlo (Sr., INF/P); Lucas Cassino (Sr., OF/INF); Jack Valenzuela (Sr., INF/P); Eddy Martinez (Sr., OF); Julian Benetiz (Sr., INF); Will Bethea (Sr., INF); Louis Rizzolo (Jr. P/INF); Adrian Sanchez (Jr. C/OF); Harrison Eng (Jr., C/OF); Anthony Perez (Jr., OF); Zack Hebbe (Jr., P); Josh Figueiredo (Jr., OF); Louis Scaff (Jr., OF/P); Mason McGarth (Jr., OF); Nikash Patel (So., P/SS); Chris Gutauskas (So., INF); Andrew Scaff (So., INF); Liam Buchan (So., C)
Outlook: Fresh off a 2024 campaign that ended with the Trojans capturing the Non-Public North B Sectional State Championship for the first time in 18 years, the Trojans return to action looking to fill the void of staff ace and LIU signee Gavin Sansone (48 innings 69 k’s). STA will rely on returning junior lefty Louis Rizzolo (48 1/3 IP, 68 K’s, 1.74 ERA) and sophomore Nikash Patel (41 1/3 IP, 43 K’s 1.19 ERA) to lead this year’s staff. Both have ace-like stuff. The staff will be rounded out by a pair of seniors in Donovan Epps and Declan DiCarlo and junior Zack Hebbe. Offensively, the hits will be paced by senior and Post University commit Will Bethea (.289 4 HRs 33 RBIs), Epps Rizzolo and DiCarlo (Mount St Mary’s signee). Juniors Adrian Sanchez and Harrison Eng will add some punch to the lineup that hopes to help carry the Trojans in 2025.
Blue Division
CARTERET
Coach: Dan Morvay, 7th season
Last year: 18-8 overall, 7-3 Gold Division
Key losses: Justin Santana (Sr., INF-P), James Rodriguez (Sr., C-1B), Jossue Torres (Sr., OF)
Roster: Eric Thompson (Sr., OF/LHP); Nick Kee (Sr., 2B/RHP); Rashad Bennett (Sr., OF); Drexler Rodriguez (Sr., C/3B); Jared Nelan (Sr., INF); Marc Schiraldo (Jr., INF/RHP); Lucas Rivera (So., INF/OF/RHP); Joniel Martinez (So., 1B/RHP); Miles Ferreiras (So., C/INF); Luis Hernandez (So., OF/LHP); Eric Martinez (Jr., INF/RHP); Jah’Kai Murray (Sr., INF); Jayden Luciano (Fr., INF); Noel Nieves (So., C/INF)
Outlook: The Ramblers tasted much winning the last two seasons, which included a division title, two state tournament wins, as well as an GMC Invitational Tournament championship in 2024. The Ramblers look to build off that momentum as they return a chunk of their starting lineup and rotation, which will look to continue their winning ways after being moved up to the Blue Division. Carteret brings back all three ace-like starters from last year. Sophomore Luis Hernadez (8-1 2.05 ERA) will set the pace for the staff after having a great freshman campaign winning multiple big games. Behind him, senior Nick Kee (2.02 ERA, 67 Ks) looks to continue his bright career and classmate Eric Thompson (2.85 ERA), will anchor the rotation. The deep pitching stable includes Lucas Rivera, Marc Schiraldo, Erick Martinez and Joniel “JoJo” Martinez. Senior catcher Drexler Rodriguez takes on a major leadership role, working to ensure the younger guys in the rotation are full of confidence throughout the season. On the offensive end, the Ramblers hope to carry the bats over from last season after putting up 6 1/2 runs a game. They will be in search of bats to replace the number two and three hitters in the lineup, but are optimistic that JoJo Martinez, Kee (.367), Rivera, Drexler Rodriguez and Hernadez can be a potent one to five in the batting order.
J.F. KENNEDY
Coach: Arthur Davis, 2nd season
Last year: 9-14 overall, 7-4 Blue Division
Key losses: RJ Coleman (P/INF, Stockton University), Luis Pimentel (P/DH), Dev Patel (P/1B)
Roster: Aydan Figueroa (So., OF); Zach Tyler (Sr., OF/RHP); Angel Peralta (Sr., OF/C); Joziah Valerio (So., INF); Myles Ulaky (Jr., RHP/1B); Michael Rosales (Jr., RHP/3B); Grant Lorentzen (Jr., RHP/OF); Fremy Peralta (Fr., C /U); Kevin Portorreal (Sr., SS/RHP); Kerwin Reynoso (Jr., 1B); Rodner Arnaud (Sr., OF/RHP); Alex Rosario (Jr., OF)
Outlook: With a strong mix of returning talent and varsity newcomers, the Mustangs are optimistic the squad will be highly competitive. Just look at the arms. The pitching staff is led by Grant Lorentzen (43 IP, 45 Ks 2.44 ERA) and Zach Tyler (22 2/3 IP, 23 Ks, 3.09 ERA). Kevin Portorreal and Michael Rosales look for increased roles, while Myles Ulaky returns to the mound after missing his sophomore season due to injury, adding another key weapon to the rotation. Lorentzen is a top two-way player and hit .329 with four doubles and three triples. Returning players like Rodner Arnaud, Angel Peralta, and Zach Tyler provide key contributions both offensively and defensively, while newcomers such as Joziah Valerio, Tom Chyzik, Fremy Peralta, and Kerwin Reynoso have worked hard in the offseason and are ready to step up in key roles. Davis, a North Carolina native who played at North Carolina A&T, aims to build a program that thrives on hard work, resilience and a commitment to continuous improvement—both on and off the field.
J.P. STEVENS
Coach: Tyler Jackow, 3rd Season
Last year: 9-17 overall, 2-10 White Division
Key losses: John Papaianni, Jackson Fong, Casden Mui, Michael Gonzalez
Roster: Chace Sullivan (Fr., CF/P); Lansen Mui (Jr. INF/P); Dev Desai (Sr., U); Nolan Overmyer, (Jr., C/P/OF); Soham Prajapati (Jr., INF/P); Jaden Kasim (Jr., 1B/P); Aarush Patel (So., P/OF); Collin Casey (Fr., INF/P); Sohan Shah (Fr., INF); Arav Patel (Jr., OF); Nithin Ragunathan (Sr., OF); Mukund Rao (Sr., OF); Shloak Patel (Jr., INF/P); Rishi Patil (Fr., INF); Cody Yim (Fr., OF); Ashvik Garg (Sr., OF); Dillon Petagna (So., C); Logan Patel (Jr., OF)
Outlook: To get a sense of how young the Hawks are this season, all three captains are juniors and there’s just one senior in the starting lineup. In fact, they’re junior dominant while also playing up to five freshmen in key positions throughout the season. The captains are all three-year starters in Nolan Overmyer, Soham Prajapati and Lansen Mui. The trio have improved tremendously throughout their tenure in North Edison and have embraced their new leadership role. Dev Desai, the lone senior starter, tied with a team-high 14 RBIs last season and hit .289. The starting left fielder bats near the top of the lineup and should see time on the mound. Freshman Chace Sullivan won the center fielder job and will bat leadoff, while fellow rookie Collin Casey will anchor the third or fourth spot in the lineup as the everyday shortstop.
While young, the coaching staff is confident in the depth of their roster, especially the pitching depth. Aarush Patel saw some quality innings and at-bats as a freshman last season and looks to build on his positive moments. The junior starters include Jaden Kasim, who returns as the first baseman and middle of the order hitter, and newcomers Shloak Patel – the team’s junior varsity ace last season – and Arav Patel, who hits in the middle of the lineup.
METUCHEN
Coach: Leo Danik, 15th season
Last year: 8-15 overall, 3-9 GMC Blue
Key losses: Ik e Busch (Sr., OF/RHP), Nicholas Calantoni (Sr., SS), Daniel Cordes (Sr., P/1B) Robert Nawn (Sr., OF/1B), Lucas Weiss (INF/P)
Roster: Michael Schwalje (Sr., INF); Sean Dereka (Jr., RHP/INF); Matt Jelleme (Jr., LHP/OF); Lucas Malamug (Jr., C/RHP/INF); Jon Nugent (Jr., INF/RHP); Simon Rosal (Jr., RHP/INF); Gianni Ciambotti (Jr., LHP/OF); Ryan Alessi (So., RHP/C/INF); Aeneas Ralph (So., LHP/OF); Joseph Tamburello (So., RHP/OF); Joseph Conway (So., RHP/1B); Chase Aretino (Jr., C/OF); Cooper Crawford (Fr., 1B/OF); James Fenton (Fr., INF/RHP)
Outlook: Some years, it just seems like you get every bounce. Other seasons, things just don’t go your way. It’s not that Metuchen didn’t have talent last spring, just, it was a tough year when many players acquired injuries at key positions. This year, there is more depth and competition at various positions with a deeper pitching rotation. All that points for the Bulldogs to having a nice bounce back campaign. A handful of varsity pitchers return led by juniors Lucas Malamug (36 2/3 IP, 43 Ks, 3.25 ERA) and Gianni Ciambotti (21 2/3 IP, 2.26 ERA). Matt Jelleme and Simon Rosal also have experienced arms. Malamug had 17 RBIs (which tied with the graduate All-Division Lucas Weiss for the team lead) and Sean Dereka hit .308 in 39 at-bats as a sophomore.
PISCATAWAY
Coach: Rob Stoddard, 5th year
Last year: 11-10 overall, 8-4 Blue Division
Key losses: Bobby Bressler (P/INF); Jaden Peace (P/OF); Kenny Barksdale (INF); Troy Bell (OF); Troy Hutchinson (C/INF); Gavin Bendix (P); Taksh Patel (INF)
Roster: Justin Brown (So., P/INF); Jared Butler (So. INF/OF); Jayden Bynes (Jr., 1B); Matthew Corradino (Sr., 2B); Brady Gallogly (Jr., P); Jason Hoffman (Sr., OF/P); Braydan Irovando (Sr., C); Kevin Kovach (Jr., INF); Jason Mann (So., C/OF); Chase Papenberg (Jr., P/INF); Sumedh Shingala (So., P/1B); Dom Summonte (Jr., INF); CJ Valera (So., P/OF); Riley Wingate (Sr., OF/P)
Outlook: The Chiefs took a nice step last season by doubling their Blue Division win total. After finishing tied for second in the division, though, Piscataway graduated seven seniors and will be rebuilding their varsity roster with only three seniors. The Chiefs also suffered a huge loss as senior captain Riley Wingate will miss the season with torn ligaments in his knee suffered during football season. Wingate was an All-Blue Division pick (.410 AVG, 25 H, team-high 19 RBIs, 2 2Bs, 3 3Bs, HR, 10 BBs, 7 SBs) and homered in the GMC underclassman all-star game. The team will look for offense in senior captain Jason Hoffman, as well as underclassmen Jason Mann, Kevin Kovach and sophomore captain Justin Brown, who all saw varsity time last season. On the mound, the Chiefs lost 70 percent of their innings pitched in 2024 with the graduated Bressler (59 Ks, 1.63 ERA), Peace and Bendix leading the way. Sumedh Shingala picked up a win and three saves last season as a freshman. Behind Shingala, there will be a bulk of new names on the mound looking to make a name for themselves.
SOUTH AMBOY
Coach: Dan Poulsen, 12th season (149-85)
Last year: 14-5 overall, 9-0 Gold Division
Key losses: Benjamin Hernandez (INF), Giro Castaldo (P), Charles Murray (OF), Isaiah Mercado (RHP), Wes Sanchez Morel (SS)
Roster: Jeremy Vasquez (Sr., OF), Diego Colon (Jr., INF/P), Micah Nemeth (So., P/INF/OF), Benjamin Smith (Sr., INF/P), Daniel Evanski (Sr., OF), Joseph Foreman (Jr., C/INF), Robert Senape Jr. (So., INF/OF/P), Robert Conklin (So., P/OF), Aaron Murray (Sr., OF), Jadiel Vasquez (Jr., INF/OF), Vaughn Pelkey (Sr., P/INF), Ken Kokoszka (Jr., OF), Geremy Valdez (Sr., OF), Wesley Lowe (So., INF/C), Madden Bizzarro (Jr., INF/P)
Outlook: The Governors captured the Gold Division pennant with a 9-0 run last season. Now, they move into the Blue Division with several key pieces back. They did graduate five seniors, including the middle infield of All-Division Ben Hernandez and Wes Sanchez Morel, as well as Giro Castaldo, the team’s No. 2 pitcher on the mound with just over 30 innings of work. Still, there’s a lot to like for South Amboy. The Gold Division Player of the Year, Jeremy Vasquez, is back after hitting .596 (34-for-57) with six doubles nine triples and three homers that drove in 19 runs a season ago. Diego Colon had a team-high 21 RBIs and hit .385. Ben Smith and Daniel Evanski hit .292 and .290 and had a good spring training. Joseph Foreman (Jr.) and sophomores Micah Nemeth, Robbie Senape and Wes Lowe look to make an impact. Juniors Kenny Kokoska, Jadiel Vasquez and Madden Bizzarro are also in the mix. On the mound, Nemeth seized the ace role as a freshman (50 IP, 47 Ks, 1.96 ERA) and is joined by pitchers seeking increased roles in Colon, Smith, Vaughn Pelkey and Robert Conklin. Dan Poulsen has a 149-85 record as he enters his 12th season.

Outlook: There’s a lot of excitement for South River baseball these days. The Rams hope to compete for a division title and make a run in the GMCT and sectional tournaments boosted by one of the best players in the state, as well as adding a key transfer. Julius Rosado is back after earning the Home News Tribune GMC Player of the Year, as well as being voted the Hitter of the Year by the GMC coaches. The Rutgers commit owns every hitting record in South River history except career hits (128 by Mike Feaster), which he is eight away. Besides playing shortstop, Julius will also see some time on the mound. Rosado hit .594 (38-for-64) with 14 home runs, 34 RBIs, 44 runs, seven doubles and 20 stolen bases. He was also 5-2 with 80 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings and a 1.56 ERA. When he’s hot, he’s hot. Rosado had a streak of reaching base 25 straight times and reached base in 40 of his last 43 plate appearances. He’ll have company. James Zsorey (Middlesex College commit) will anchor the pitching staff (46 IP, 53 Ks) and hit .378. He’ll be followed in the rotation by Brendan Lell, Julien Burosovic, Travis Maloney and Sebastian Deerson. The versatile Lell can play many positions. Three promising freshmen will be thrown into the fire right away inBurosovic, Jimmy Sanchez and Deerson. Pasion, Maloney, Olave and Silva will all see time in the outfield. Rivera will come off the bench and see time as a reserve. Additionally, South River is fielding a junior varsity team for the first time in over five years that’s coached by alum Nicholas Lepore.

The pitching depth is a strong suit for the Tigers, continuing with Jack Clements, Stephan Zappola and promising freshman Joshua Carreras. Defensively, East Brunswick Magnet returns several infield starters, including Carreras, Jack Clements and Bienvenue. Strong bats Braeden Cullen and Jedwin Crespo are battling to round out the infield at first base. In the outfield, O’Neill and Zappola will be the backbone of the team covering the outfield gaps flanked by rookie Joshua Carreras. Andrew Teleposky and Chase Myers form a defensive-wall duo behind home plate. Liam Andre and Noah Molina round out the squad adding speed and versatility to the offense. Sean Radu takes over as head coach. The former Woodbridge and Johnson & Wales player spent the last 10 seasons as head coach at Plainfield.
DUNELLEN
Coach: Connor Lindsay, 2nd season
Last year: 11-14 overall, 7-1 Silver Division
Key losses: Jacob Manna (INF/P), Benson Nguyen (OF)

Outlook: The bad? The Destroyers graduated ace and steady hitter Jacob Manna. The good? They return just about everyone else. Dunellen brings back eight starters boosted by All-Division players Danny Watts, Mark Stein and Ryan Hutchins. On the mound, he struck out 56 in 28 1/3 innings with a 3.21 ERA. The trio has each started since they were freshmen and hope to ease Dunellen’s transition from the Silver to the revamped Gold Division. Cole Mayer also looks to be a top pitcher. Returning players include Michael Dow (.323 average), Kristhan Roman, Jackson Portik, Juanluis Rodriguez, Luke Shealy and Luke Pettersen bring back plenty of varsity experience. Rookie Joe Reyes looks to be a big part of the team, as well as Cesar Fermin.

The group is led by senior captain Seamus MacKinnon who’s been a stronghold for the team over the past three years earning two division titles and batting over .400 in consecutive seasons, stealing 31 bases last season and throwing out 10 runners. In addition to MacKinnon, the Owls feature sophomore captain Dorian Crocco, who showed potential in his rookie campaign in which he hit .340 with 25 stolen bases and threw over 38 innings on the mound that earned him an All-Division selection. Additionally, the team features twin seniors Owen and Connor Roth-Zappo, who play first base and center field, respectively, and have each earned All-Division selections in previous seasons. Sophomores have stepped up and taken leadership roles and players across all grades are contributing to Piscataway Magnet’s culture on and off the field. They return sophomore All-Division players in Kyle Malchiodi (.423, 11-for-26 with team-high 17 RBIs) and Colton Lyerly (.372, 16-for-43). Adam Morales, Elvis Rodriguez and Derek Scotillo are among the returning experienced players. The team is pleased to be playing an Autism Awareness Game for the first time in a while.
