WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) -The Hotter’N Hell Hundred has been named the third top road cycling event in the United States, according to USA Today. The event was nominated last month as part of the “Top 20 Best Cycling Events” by an expert panel, with the final vote left up to USA Today readers. The community showed strong support, pushing the event into the top three.

David Coleman, chairman of the Hotter’N Hell Hundred, expressed his appreciation for the community’s backing.

“Hotter’N Hell wouldn’t happen without our thousands of volunteers. We just appreciate them so much. And we love the fact that they like to step up and showcase Wichita Falls as a wonderful place to come and ride your bike, and that’s what makes it so special,” Coleman said.

The Hotter’N Hell Hundred ranked behind New York’s Five Boro Bike Tour in first place and Lake Tahoe’s America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride in second. Coleman noted that, despite not taking first place, it’s an honor to be compared to these larger events.

“We were competing against the Five Boro Bike Tour in New York City, which has 32,000 participants. For Wichita Falls, with a population of 100,000, to compete in that kind of arena is an awesome statement about how much people love Wichita Falls and the Hotter’N Hell,” Coleman said.

After making it into the top 10 for two years in a row, event officials are hopeful for future rankings. They plan to begin their publicity campaign earlier next year to encourage people to vote for the event.

“Next year, we hope to get started a little earlier with our publicity campaign to get people to vote for us, and we hope to be right up there at the top of the list every year,” Coleman said.

Last year, the event took first place in the rankings, and officials are aiming to make the top 10 again next year.
