Gazprom Neft opens a sports complex in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug

A new sports facility — the «Polyarny (Polar)» sports complex — has opened in the city of Labytnangi in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, built by Gazprom Neft as part of its «Home Towns» corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

The new Polyarny complex means local residents will now be able to swim, practice dance and aerobics, and play five-a-side football, basketball and tennis, all year round. The 7,000 square-metre complex also includes a multifunctional gym and weights room, an aerobics studio and a six-lane swimming pool. The universal gym, which can be transformed into a performance space for concerts and conferences, offers spectator seating for 350, with a special area for wheelchair users. The sports complex offers a barrier-free area for people with disabilities, as well as showers equipped with tactile floor tiles for the visually impaired.

This is now the second sports complex to be built by Gazprom Neft in Labytnangi — the new Avangard ice complex having opened here in September.

«Developing Yamal is impossible without modern sports centres. Complexes like the Polyarny centre act as magnets for local people and open up new opportunities for talented children. Together with the nearby ice centre — also built by us in conjunction with local government — development of sports infrastructure in this Arctic city is now complete. Labytnangi residents will now be able to do sport, and take part in competitions, all year round — the new sports complex offering every opportunity for this».

Alexander Dybal Deputy CEO for Corporate Communications and a member of the management board, Gazprom Neft

«The opening of this sports complex in Labytnangi has been made possible thanks to the Okrug’s collaboration with Gazprom Neft — our longstanding and reliable partner, not just operating in Yamal but also going to some trouble to improve living conditions in the region. The number of people regularly engaging in sport in Yamal increases every year. I am certain that, thanks to the opening of complexes like these, there will now be even more».

Dmitry Artyukhov Governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug

Notes for editors

The Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is a crucial region for the company’s activities — the oil and gas condensate fields here being responsible for approximately 50 percent of the company’s total production. The Novoportovskoye field, located on the Yamal Peninsula, and the Vostochno-Messoyakhskoye field (the northernmost onshore field in Russia, located on the Gydan Peninsula) are today making a significant contribution to Gazprom Neft’s production growth. In terms of proven hydrocarbon reserves, these assets are considered unique. Full-scale construction at the Tazovsky field is planned for 2020.

Gazprom Neft’s “Home Towns” programme is one of Russian business’s most successful and best-known local development initiatives. Covering the construction of public social infrastructure facilities, as well as small voluntary initiatives, town and city celebrations, festivals and conferences — whatever the size or scale, all projects under the Home Towns programme are directed at improving quality of life in those regions in which Gazprom Neft operates.
